An exceptional late 19th-century French bronze figural mantel clock titled “Cupidon et Le Taureau.” This superb timepiece features a patinated bronze Cupid finial poised with his bow and arrow, together with a powerful Bull supporting the gilt-bronze pendulum clock. The clock case is lavishly embellished with foliate motifs and fitted with a bronze dial, enamel cartouche Roman numerals, blackened metal hands, and framed glass doors at the front and rear. The ensemble rests upon an ornate, heavy gilt-bronze base set on four scrolling acanthus feet.
The clock is in very good condition and working accordingly, striking on the hour and half-hour. The movement bears the maker’s stamp “AD Mougin – Deux Médailles.” A.D. Mougin was a distinguished 19th-century Parisian horologist based at Rue de Turenne 75, renowned for his award-winning craftsmanship—honors he proudly referenced with the “Deux Médailles” hallmark. French manufacture, circa 1870.
